George Truett Hollis MA ’61, PhD ’73 (MUS) of Union, South Carolina; Jan. 28, at the age of 89. From early in life, he demonstrated a passion for music which grew into his becoming an accomplished pianist and musicologist. He taught piano performance as well as music history and other courses for the music department at Converse College in Spartanburg, South Carolina, prior to moving to South Pasadena, California in 1957. He taught middle school music while pursuing his doctorate at USC. In 1967, he presented the first televised college-credit course in music in Los Angeles on KCET-TV. At East Los Angeles College, he was professor of music and chair of the music department, where he continued to serve until his retirement as professor emeritus in 1988.
He was preceded in death by his wife Elly.
