Students take a hike and enjoy the view

Groups get a firsthand look at nature on weekly trips across SoCal peaks and valleys

by USC News staff

Darren Ruddell, assistant professor of spatial sciences at the USC Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences, led students on a hike of Will Rogers State Park.

The group walked down the Backbone Trail, photographed the inside of an abandoned power plant and crossed creeks during its “Peaks and Professors” outing on April 12.

The weekly trips are planned and organized by designated student leaders, with one faculty member invited to lead the way.

In coming weeks, the students will visit Elysian Park, Placerita Canyon, Calabasas Park, Big Horn Mine/Mojave Desert and Sturtevant Falls/San Gabriel Mountains.
