Thornton School of Music Students Get a Lesson From a Master Conductor

From left, President Steven B. Sample, conductor Michael Tilson Thomas and USC Thornton School of Music Dean Larry J. Livingston at a reception held at Davidson Conference Center on Tuesday, March 7. The reception – for students, faculty and those involved in the university’s arts initiative – followed an open rehearsal of the Thornton Symphony at Bing Theater earlier in the day. Tilson Thomas, the Grammy Award-winning director of the San Francisco Symphony, is a School of Music alumnus who returned to USC to teach students hoping to follow in his stellar path.
