The women’s lacrosse team opens its third season Saturday with a home match against seven-time NCAA champion Northwestern at the Coliseum.

Since Northwestern is considered the dominant program in the sport, USC Athletic Director Pat Haden said, “we would like to get as many fans as possible to that game.”

The game starts at 3 p.m., and admission is free.

The USC women’s lacrosse team was picked to finish third in a poll of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation coaches.

The Trojans were also picked to finish third in 2014 and indeed completed the season tied for third with a 6-3 mark in MPSF games. USC was 9-9 overall in its second year of competition. The Trojans earned a spot in the MPSF tournament quarterfinals, where they were defeated by Oregon, 7-6. In the program’s first year, the coaches picked USC to finish seventh, but the Women of Troy exceeded expectations with a 5-3 record to claim fourth place and a spot in the MPSF tournament.
