Indian student group hosts first Sankranti festival
Members taste pongal, create beautiful rangoli — and answer trivia questions

Members of the Association of Indian Students at USC gathered Jan. 16 to celebrate the group’ first Sankranti festival.
The event, held at the University Religious Center, included:
- A pongal competition, with both sweet and spicy versions of the rice dish being judged.
- A rangoli compeition, in which teams of up to four creative the decorative patterns using powder of various colors.
- A sankranti know-it-all compeition, trivia relating to Sankranti.
Sankranti marks the movement of the sun from one zodiac to another.
