The former General Hospital overlooking the Health Sciences Campus is once again a center of healing. It reopened in March as The Wellness Center at the Historic General Hospital and now houses several nonprofits focused on health in Boyle Heights, Lincoln Heights and surrounding areas. Keck Medicine of USC has helped The Wellness Center by funding a diabetes prevention program sponsored by the YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles and partnering with the Arthritis Foundation. Keck Medicine of USC also reached out to neighborhood medical clinics to spread the word about programs for patients. The center promotes exercise and fitness through fitness trails, jogging paths, exercise courts and playgrounds.
