German director Michael Hampe – former intendant of Cologne Opera, general director of the Dresden Music Festival and one of the world’s foremost opera producers – was in residency at the USC Thornton School of Music in mid-February.
On Friday, Feb. 16, Hampe led an opera aria master class for vocal arts students. The class was held in Newman Recital Hall and was open to the public.

On Saturday, Feb. 17, members of the USC Thornton Opera presented scenes from “Turandot,” “Faust,” “Lucia di Lammermoor,” “L’Elisir d’Amore” and “Susannah” in Newman Recital Hall. Hampe introduced each scene.
