Hailing them as “true pillars of the Trojan Family,” USC President C. L. Max Nikias delivered the keynote address at the 2013 Half Century Trojans Annual Hall of Fame Luncheon to nearly 350 senior alumni at Town & Gown.

Half Century Trojans President Lorna Reed ’58 and Associate Senior Vice President for Alumni Relations Patrick Auerbach EdD ’08 shared hosting duties at the luncheon, which recognized five outstanding Half Century Trojans.

“Although they have excelled in different fields — health policy, education, engineering, social work and community service — they all share a passion for USC that is inspiring,” Reed said. “They are ‘still fighting on’ to support their alma mater and strengthen the ties that bind Trojans of all ages, lifelong and worldwide.”

Four senior USC alumni were inducted into the Half Century Trojans Hall of Fame:

John Bedrosian LLB ’59 – The retired co-founder of National Medical Enterprises (now Tenet Healthcare Corp.) and Autobytel Inc., Bedrosian is a member of the USC Price School of Public Policy Board of Councilors. He and his wife, Judith, endowed the school’s Judith and John Bedrosian Center on Governance and Public Enterprise in 2005.

Kathleen McCarthy Kostlan ’57 – The chairperson of the Thomas and Dorothy Leavey Foundation, one of California’s largest and most influential philanthropic institutions, McCarthy has served on the USC Board of Trustees since 1986. In honor of her numerous accomplishments, the McCarthy Quadrangle on University Park Campus was dedicated to her in 2001.

John Shea ’49 – The chairman of the J.F. Shea group of companies, Shea is a member of the USC Viterbi School of Engineering Board of Councilors, the USC Lusk Center for Real Estate and the Lusk Advisory Council. He is also an active mentor in the Lusk Center’s Master of Real Estate Development program.

Barbara Solomon DWS ’66 – The retired vice provost for USC faculty and minority affairs and former dean of the Graduate School, Solomon was a  professor in the USC School of Social Work. She received the Presidential Medallion, the university’s highest honor, in 1999.

In addition to the Hall of Fame honorees, James Maddux ’56, chairman of the board of Seaview Nursery Inc., received the Distinguished Service Award. A longtime member of the Half Century Trojans Board of Directors, Maddux chaired the senior alumni organization’s History Committee and co-chaired his Class of 1956 50th Reunion Committee.
