Two USC Faculty Members Will Be Honored With Doctorates This Month

Fine Arts Dean Ruth Weisberg will be awarded a doctor of humane letters honoris causa from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion and will deliver the commencement address at 3 p.m. at HUC-JIR on Monday, May 14. The title of her speech is “Jewish Experience: The Spiritual and the Aesthetic.” Weisberg, a professor of studio arts, is an expert on Jewish themes in contemporary art. The college is at 32nd Street and Hoover Boulevard.

James Ragan, director of the Master of Professional Writing Program, will receive an honorary doctorate from Richmond, The American International University in London, on Thursday, May 10. Ragan is a poet, playwright and screenwriter whose most recent collection of poetry is “Lusions” (Grove Press, 1997). Richmond is a liberal arts and professional studies university with campuses in London, Richmond and Kensington, U.K.
