B-Vitamin Trials Are Underway

IF YOU ARE 40 YEARS OF AGE or older and do not have coronary heart disease, you may be eligible for a clinical trial on the effects of B-vitamins that is underway at USC’s Atherosclerosis Research Unit.
Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in men and women in the United States, but atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries) is potentially preventable.
Funded by the National Institutes of Health, the trial is designed to assess the effects of B-vitamins on homocysteine and the progression of atherosclerosis, and to learn if B-vitamins reduce hardening of the arteries. Noninvasive methods for visualizing the arteries in the neck and heart will be used to determine the effects of B-vitamin supplementation.
Those who qualify for this study will receive free benefits including cholesterol and blood pressure monitoring and an annual EKG. To learn how to qualify, or if you have any questions, call the toll-free number, 1-866-240-1489 between the hours of 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., weekdays, or go to www.usc.edu/medicine/aru.
