Former USC women’s volleyball standouts April Ross and Jennifer Kessy made it to the semifinals of the 2012 London Olympic women’s beach volleyball competition with a 25-23, 21-18 quarterfinal victory over the Czech Republic’s Kristyna Kolocova and Marketa Slukova on Aug. 5.

Ross and Kessy, the world’s No. 4-ranked team, won their fifth consecutive match in the games. The duo, making their first trip to the Olympics, will now face Brazil’s Juliana Silva and Larissa Franca, the world’s top-ranked team, on Aug. 7.

Against Kolocova and Slukova, ranked 11th in the world, Ross had 20 kills and Kessy had three blocks while both players added two aces apiece.

Kessy was a two-time All-Conference performer at USC while lettering from 1995 to 1998. Ross, who lettered from 2000 to 2003, was a two-time All-American who led the Women of Troy to the 2002 and 2003 NCAA titles. Kessy and Ross have combined for 21 pro tournament victories.
