In memoriam: Tony Brewer, 50
Tony Brewer, a co-captain of the 1983 USC football team, died on July 8 at Olive View Medical Center in Sylmar, Calif. He was 50.
Brewer, who suffered from dermatomyositis, the same connective-tissue disease that took the life of former Trojan All-American running back Ricky Bell, started at safety for the Trojans in 1982 and 1983. He had 112 career tackles and four interceptions. He came to USC from Gardena High.
Recently, Brewer was a musician, playing the saxophone in various local bands.
He is survived by his wife, Lynn.
Visitation will be on July 25 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Inglewood Cemetery Mortuary, 3801 W. Manchester Blvd., Inglewood, Calif., 90305.
A memorial service will be held on July 28 at 1 p.m. at the Church of the Chimes, 14115 Magnolia Blvd., Sherman Oaks, Calif., 91423, with a reception immediately following.
