22nd annual Swim with Mike fundraiser slated for April 13

USC will host the 22nd annual Swim With Mike, a fundraiser designed to fund scholarships for USC athletes who have suffered disabling injuries or illnesses. The event will take place April 13 in USC’s McDonald’s Swim Stadium.

Swim With Mike is named for former Trojan swimmer Mike Nyeholt, who was paralyzed from the chest down in a motorcycle accident 22 years ago. Originally intended to be a one-time event, Swim With Mike instead became an annual program that has raised $3 million to fund 40 scholarships for USC students. Nyeholt, who swims every year in the event, has personally raised $500,000.

Twelve Swim With Mike scholarship recipients are now attending the university.

The event, featuring a barbecue at noon, live entertainment, celebrity guests and silent auction, will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Parking and admission are free.
