Youngsters Spread Holiday Cheer
Led by a USC Thornton music student, a choir from St. Agnes Parish School sings for residents of the St. John of God Retirement and Care Center.

Students from St. Agnes Parish Church brought holiday cheer to seniors at the St. John of God Retirement and Care Center.

One group of students was led by their choral director and accompanied by a pianist from the USC Thornton School of Music outreach program. St. Agnes teachers led another group of carolers.

Kathleen Doherty, the St. Agnes development director, noted that this kind of intergenerational activity is an important learning experience for the children. She hopes other projects can be developed.

For the residents of St. John, the young faces and holiday carols brightened their day. They particularly enjoyed the Christmas cards the students had crafted for each resident.

“After the children left, we were talking about their presentation all day long,” said resident Elisa Daz. “We hope to write to the youngsters who gave us our cards.”

On the following day, children from the USC School of Early Childhood Education also visited St. John to sing for residents, brightening yet another day at the senior community.
