Cementing urban ties

Edward J. Blakely, dean of the School of Urban and Regional Planning, assists Ralph Lewis, center, as he makes an imprint of his hand in a block of cement during a symbolic groundbreaking ceremony May 24 for the School of Urban and Regional Planning’s new building. The ceremony recognized the significant contribution made by Lewis and his wife, Goldy, toward financing the building, which will be called Ralph and Goldy Lewis Hall. Plans call for construction of the three-story building to be under way in summer 1996. The cement blocks, which will be placed prominently in the building, were signed by the Lewises and sons Randall, Richard and Roger. At Lewis’ left is his aide, Irene Peete.
