Thousands gathered Saturday at USC’s University Park Campus to celebrate the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books, an annual tradition that has become the nation’s largest literary and cultural festival.

Book lovers from around the country braved the city’s first hot weekend of the year to descend on USC and enjoy panel-style interviews with award-winning, celebrity and lesser-known authors; watch musical acts (including some with USC origins) on several stages throughout the campus; and visit booths from independent bookstores, publishing companies and other literary-themed organizations. It’s the 28th year for the festival, which USC has hosted since 2011.

The festival continues Sunday. Admission is free, though some conversation events require tickets, which can be obtained online.
