Keck Medical Center of USC, which includes Keck Hospital of USC and USC Norris Cancer Hospital, has once again been recognized among the nation’s best hospitals in the 2022-2023 U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals rankings.

Keck Medical Center ranked among the top 10 hospitals in California and top three hospitals in the Los Angeles metro area — designations that place the academic medical center in the top 25 hospitals nationwide.

“These results reflect our ceaseless dedication to providing patients with the highest standards of care,” said Rod Hanners, CEO of Keck Medicine of USC. “Despite the ongoing challenges of yet another year of the COVID-19 pandemic, our faculty and staff continue to strive for and achieve clinical and academic excellence.”

Additionally, Keck Medical Center ranked among the top 50 nationwide in eight specialties, including two that placed in the top 10: Gastroenterology & GI surgery at No. 6 and Urology at No. 8. Both specialties, plus Cancer and Orthopedics, increased significantly in the rankings since last year.

The complete list of Keck Medical Center rankings is as follows:

  • Gastroenterology & GI Surgery (No. 6)
  • Urology (No. 8)
  • Geriatrics (No. 12)
  • Cancer (No. 18)
  • Cardiology & Heart Surgery (No. 19)
  • Pulmonology & Lung Surgery (No. 25)
  • Orthopedics (No. 30)
  • Ear, Nose & Throat (No. 35)

Keck Medical Center was also rated High Performing — the highest rating possible — in 16 out of 19 common procedures and conditions that were evaluated.

The ratings include those for abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, aortic valve surgery, back surgery (spinal fusion), colon cancer surgery, heart attack, heart bypass surgery, heart failure, hip fracture, hip replacement, knee replacement, lung cancer surgery, pneumonia, prostate cancer surgery, stroke, transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and uterine cancer surgery.

Because part of the U.S. News & World Report ranking is determined through physician votes, Hanners offered his gratitude to those who participated — as well as to the many individuals who provide the award-winning care.

“This national recognition only underscores what both we and our patients see daily,” Hanners said. “We would not be here without your hard work and steadfast commitment to our health system.”
