The New American Workplace

James O’Toole, research professor in the USC Center for Effective Organizations, and Edward E. Lawler III, founder and director of the CEO and Distinguished Professor in the Marshall School of Business, have published this sequel to “Work in America,” the revolutionary study they helped produce in 1972, which alerted the nation to the disagreeable working conditions of the day. In this updated study, the authors look at what has improved in the workplace over the last three decades and what issues remain while raising new concerns facing today’s workforce.
