Marty Sargeant named CEO of Keck Hospital of USC and USC Norris Cancer Hospital

Experienced health care executive has served as interim CEO for the past year and will continue to lead nationally ranked medical center

LOS ANGELES — Marty Sargeant has been named CEO of Keck Medical Center of USC, comprised of Keck Hospital of USC and USC Norris Cancer Hospital. He has served as interim CEO since July 2020 and will begin his new role immediately.

As CEO, Sargeant will provide executive leadership for both hospitals and will also continue maintaining the strong relationships that he’s cultivated with department chairs, faculty, staff and leadership.

“In his time as interim, Marty has acquired new talent, aligned our medical teams to advance patient care and enhanced surgical procedures — all during a pandemic,” said Rod Hanners, CEO of Keck Medicine of USC. “His commitment to putting patients first and creating a work environment where health care providers can thrive make him an ideal leader for Keck Medicine.”

Keck Medical Center of USC ranks among the top 25 hospitals nationally and among the top 50 hospitals in the country across 12 medical specialties by U.S. News & World Report in the 2021-2022 Best Hospitals rankings.

Keck Hospital is a 401-bed acute care hospital. USC Norris Cancer Hospital is part of USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center, one of the eight original comprehensive cancer centers designated by the National Cancer Institute. It offers 60 beds and focuses on 13 areas of cancer treatment.

Sargeant has more than 20 years of health care leadership experience. Prior to his role as interim CEO, he served as chief operating officer for the two hospitals. Before joining Keck Medicine, Sargeant served as COO for City of Hope and held a number of positions over a 17-year tenure with Cleveland Clinic. Previous to his career in health care, Sargeant served for 10 years as an F-15 combat pilot in the United States Air Force.

He is a graduate of Virginia Military Institute and holds an MBA from Case Western Reserve University.
