Cockrell Named CoSIDA Academic All-America Team Member Of The Year For Women's T&F

USC hurdler Anna Cockrell was named the 2020 CoSIDA Academic All-America Women's Team Member of the Year for Track & Field and is joined on the first team by sprinter TeeTee Terry it was announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) today (June 25).  

Cockrell and Terry become the first USC track and field athletes to be named first team Academic All-America, the first Trojan student-athletes to be selected since 2017 and the 37th and 38th overall following the award's inception in 1952.  Cockrell also becomes USC's only Team Member of the Year honoree since CoSIDA began naming an Academic All-America Team Member of the Year in 1996.

Cockrell, from Charlotte, N.C., was the 2019 NCAA 400m hurdles champion and is a 10-time All-American.  She also ran on USC's winning 4x400m relay which clinched the 2018 NCAA team title for the Trojan women, the second in school history.  Cockrell has also scored at the Pac-12 Championships in the 100m hurdles, 400m hurdles and 4x400m relay in each of her first three seasons, including winning five event titles and finishing no lower than third.  Cockrell ranks third on both USC's 100m hurdles (12.69) and 400m hurdles (55.14) all-time lists.

The three-time captain graduated from USC with a degree in Communication and a minor in Political Science with a 3.98 grade-point average (GPA).  She currently is working on a graduate degree in Public Policy and has a 4.0 GPA.

Cockrell has been very involved in extra-curricular activities while at USC including being a founding member of the United Black Student-Athlete Association, recipient of the Order of Troy, member of Lambda Pi Eta, Communication Honors Society, a graduate student research assistant and a volunteer with multiple political campaigns. Cockrell was also one of the two athletes selected to be part of the process in the hiring of USC's current athletic director Mike Bohn in November of 2019.

Terry, from Miami, Fla., won the 2019 NCAA 60m dash title, is a two-time Pac-12 100m champion and is a 5-time All-American.  She holds the USC 100m dash record with a time of 10.98, ranks ninth all-time in the 200m with a time of 22.74 and anchored the school record-setting 4x100m relay which won the 2019 NCAA title with a time of 42.21.

Terry, a 2020 team captain, graduated with a degree in Communication with a minor in Forensics & Criminality, while posting a 3.68 GPA. She will now begin work on a master's in Entrepreneurship and Innovation.
