USC continues to attract top students from around the country and across the globe, as almost 60,000 students applied for admission for the 2020 fall term. Of those who applied, 9,535 have been offered admission — an acceptance rate of just under 16%.

“USC is honored to have received applications from so many high-achieving, creative, diverse and uniquely talented individuals who applied to join us,” said Timothy Brunold, USC dean of admission.

“The demand for a USC education remains strong, and the commitment to our core mission endures,” he added. “USC is, and will always be, devoted to nurturing compassionate and innovative students who will help our society as a whole.”

Accepted applicants again demonstrated a high level of academic achievement, with an average unweighted GPA of 3.88. USC remains a destination for international students, who account for 14% of those offered admission.

Achievement and diversity: Trojan traditions

The university continues to attract an impressive mix of high performers and underrepresented groups.

Straight-A students make up 38% of the fall admits. The average admitted student had test scores in the 97th percentile and enrolled in six to seven Advanced Placement courses in high school.

Among the fall admits, 17% would be the first in their families to attend college. Underrepresented minority groups comprise 29%.

From all parts of the country and all around the world

USC’s fall admits come from all 50 states, the District of Columbia and four U.S. territories, with some 3,500 high schools represented. California is the most represented state at 40%. Outside California, the leading U.S. states for students are, in order: Texas, New York, Illinois, Washington and Florida.

And international students from 96 countries comprise 14% of those admitted, a rate comparable to previous years. Outside the U.S., the most represented countries are China, India, South Korea, Canada and Mexico.

“We look forward to guiding them through this journey to enrich their minds and spirit and welcoming them into the Trojan Family,” Brunold said.

Note: As enrollment commitments are due May 1, the makeup of the enrolled class may differ.
