Garcetti, Greuel to face off in live TV debate at USC
After weeks of heated rhetoric, Los Angeles mayoral hopefuls Eric Garcetti and Wendy Greuel will face off in a televised debate and town hall at the Galen Center on May 5. They will share the stage at USC just two weeks before the runoff election on May 21 to select the city’s next mayor.
The Jesse M. Unruh Institute of Politics at USC and the Los Angeles Times are co-hosts of the debate. Media partner KTLA 5 will broadcast the debate live and commercial free from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The event will also be live streamed on ktla.com and latimes.com.
Thomas S. Sayles, USC senior vice president for University Relations, and Times Publisher and CEO Eddy Hartenstein will give introductory remarks. Unruh Institute Director Dan Schnur and Jim Newton, Times’ Opinion editor-at-large and columnist, will moderate the debate. City Controller Greuel and City Councilman Garcetti will then take questions from students and community members.
Community partners of the debate are the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation and Junior State of America.
