USC Thornton student nominated for Latin Grammy
Suemy Gonzalez, a senior in the Popular Music program at the USC Thornton School of Music, is nominated for a Latin Grammy with her group Trio Ellas, an all-female mariachi ensemble that fuses traditional material with modern rock and other influences. In addition to Gonzalez on violin, the Los Angeles-based trio features Stephanie Amaro on guitar and Nelly Cortez on guitarron.
Nominated for best ranchero album, Con Ustedes … Trio Ellas features USC Thornton faculty member Andy Abad, who produced the album, and artwork by fellow Popular Music student Matias Mora. The Latin Grammy Awards will air on Univision on Nov. 15.
