New appointee fuses fundraising with theater
Sara Fousekis has been named the new assistant dean and director of development at the USC School of Dramatic Arts.
Fousekis most recently served as associate vice president of development at Segerstrom Center for the Arts, building new stewardship programs, expanding the donor base, growing volunteer participation and overseeing the center’s $9 million annual fund campaign and raising nearly $40 million cumulatively in three years.
“Sara is a welcome addition to the USC School of Dramatic Arts,” said Dean Madeline Puzo. “She has the passion and the experience to help the school build the financial support it needs to succeed in our mission to prepare our student artists to be future leaders in the dramatic arts.”
Added Fousekis: “I am thrilled to be able to leverage my years of experience in theater and fundraising to realize the future dreams and mission of one of the country’s pre-eminent dramatic arts training programs. I look forward to ensuring the continued success and growth of the school through our ambitious fundraising goals, as part of the historic Campaign for the University of Southern California.”
Prior to Segerstrom, Fousekis spent a decade at the Tony Award-winning Berkeley Repertory Theatre in Berkeley, where she directed two major capital campaigns. She was instrumental in attracting dozens of new corporate and community leaders, created a new $250,000 donor club and launched a corporate program that continues to attract a variety of important sponsors.
Fousekis has consulted for several nonprofit organizations, conducted fundraising assessments and developed institutional growth results. She has presented extensively at fundraising conferences and business roundtables nationwide and was a featured presenter at a James Irvine Foundation peer exchange meeting of 20 California nonprofit arts executive directors this past spring.
