USC Viterbi graduate students show youngsters how robots can play a bigger role in society

Labs and hallways were crowded at the USC Viterbi School of Engineering, where 2,200 people got to view, touch or interact with 60 robots in labs across four buildings.
While open to the public, the school’s Robotics Open House largely draws students from elementary and middle schools across Los Angeles County. At the April 14 event, graduate students explained how robots can play a larger role in society by providing companionship for the elderly and teaching children with autism. Demonstrations included humanoid robots with changing facial expressions, underwater research drones and the use of robotic limbs.
