Feb. 11, 1996 is the official birthday of the SoCal VoCals, collegiate a cappella’s undisputed world champions. The group celebrated its 20th anniversary in February on the tail of two signature achievements: performing for the Obamas at a White House holiday party and winning the 2015 ICCA finals in New York City.

“It’s way more cool now than when I was in it,” said VoCal No. 1 Brock Harris ’97, of the group he founded.

This exclusive club of 120 alumni and 12 current student members is a tight-knit community with strong traditions.

“We have a real good sense of our history, and we take pride in it,” said Harris, now an independent realtor and owner of the group’s home-base, the sprawling Victorian known as VoCal House.
