USC President Steven B. Sample greets three-time NCAA 100-meter champ Angela Williams as the 2001 NCAA Champion Women of Troy track and field team returns to the Los Angeles International Airport June 4. Williams, a junior, and teammates Brigita Langerholc (800-meter) and Inga Stasiulionyte (javelin) each won individual titles, spurring the women’s team to its first team title at the 2001 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, held at the University of Oregon’s Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., May 30-June 2. “I’m so excited right now,” said Williams. “My cheeks are going to be sore from smiling so hard. I’m so proud of my team.” The win was USC’s 29th team national championship in track and field and the school’s seventh women’s national title.
