New play to honor US military veterans

Brian Monahan co-wrote Fit for Society.

In recognition of Veterans Day, USC’s Vision and Voices will present Fit for Society, a play performed by the Veterans Center for the Performing Arts on Nov. 12 at 6 p.m. at the Ronald Tutor Campus Center Ballroom.

The play was written by Brian Monahan, the son of a U.S. Navy officer, and Stephan Wolfert, a U.S. Army veteran who directed the military segments of the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical Movin’ Out.

Fit for Society, which focuses on experiences of the military, features the stories of actual soldiers, survivors and family members.

Anthony Hassan, director of the USC Center for Innovation and Research on Veterans and Military Families and a retired Air Force officer, will moderate a conversation with Monahan and Wolfert following the play.

After the discussion, five veterans who are members of the USC community, each representing a branch of the U.S. military, will describe how military experiences have shaped their lives.
