The U.S. Women’s National Volleyball Team, ranked No. 1 in the world by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) and featuring former USC player Nicole Davis ’06, will host Bulgaria in a series of exhibition matches prior to its departure for the Summer Olympic Games in London. Two of those matches will take place at the Galen Center on July 16 and 18.
“This is the last opportunity to see our USA women play prior to the team leaving for London,” said USC Head Coach Mick Haley. “USC is extremely proud to be hosting these events, and we know the team has a great opportunity to win our first gold medal in women’s volleyball.”
The matches are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Admission for either match is $10 for adults, while tickets for children 12 and under, and groups of 10 or more are $5 per match. Purchase tickets by visiting www.gettrojantix.com/usa
The city of Anaheim — the official host city for the U.S. Women’s and Men’s National Volleyball Teams — will host the first of the three exhibition matches with Bulgaria. The match will be held on July 14 at 7 p.m. at Canyon High School (220 S. Imperial Highway). Tickets will only be sold at the door, and seating is limited.
The U.S. women will use the three matches as final preparations for this month’s Olympic Games. Team USA qualified for the event with its silver-medal finish at the 2011 FIVB World Cup in November.
“Nicole Davis won two national championships here at USC,” Haley said. “How much fun would it be to see her and her teammates be the first team to win gold? This team deserves your support and your admiration for the way it has represented our country the past four years.”
The Women of Troy will open the 2012 season on the road but will return to Galen Center as they host Northern Iowa, Boston College and Mississippi State in the Luxe City Center Trojan Invitational Aug. 31-Sept. 1.
Last year, USC advanced to the NCAA national semifinal for the third time in five years and completed the season with a 29-5 overall record as Pac-12 champions.
