Movie critic Roger Ebert, of the nationally syndicated “Siskel & Ebert” TV show, stopped by the Norris Theatre March 31 for the U.S. premiere of On the Beat. The screening of the film, written and directed by Chinese auteur Ning Ying, was the first event of the newly created Asia Pacific Media Center at USC’s Annenberg Center for Communication.

Many in the audience, including Ebert, remained in their seats after the screening for a question-and-answer session with the filmmaker. Ying’s comedy followed the misadventures of a small police station in a rural section of Beijing.u0000
