USC Norris Cancer Hospital honored for high-quality nursing
The hospital earns national accolade for excellence at an academic medical center
USC Norris Cancer Hospital nurses have been recognized for their high quality of care by the nation’s leading provider of patient satisfaction surveys.
Indiana-based Press Ganey, which supports health care providers in understanding and improving the entire patient experience, assesses 17 quality measures to determine the winner of the National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators Award.
Quality measures include total nursing hours per patient-days, registered nurse skill mix, total fall rate, pain assessments and ventilator-associated pneumonia rate.
“We are proud of our nurses’ accomplishments and are delighted to receive this award,” said Annette Sy, chief nursing officer at Keck Medical Center of USC.
USC Norris Cancer Hospital has a number of initiatives focusing on nurse-sensitive quality indicators, including committees for fall prevention, Sy added.
It is a 60-bed acute care facility that is part of USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center, a key regional and national resource for cancer research, treatment, prevention and education. Ranked among the top centers in the country for cancer care, the hospital is one of eight original comprehensive cancer centers designated by the National Cancer Institute.
